Late in Arriving
JFK was in Hyannis Port with his family when at 9 PM he received the first of several briefings by Air Force aide Godfrey McHugh that the plane carrying UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold to his destination in the Republic of Congo was late in arriving. Through the next several hours McHugh made the trip from the basement of the Yachtsman Hotel, where the presidential communications room was set up, the Kennedy family home to give updates.
