JFK throws out the first pitch to open the 1961 Major League Baseball season. In a report that no doubt pleased the appearances-conscious Kennedy, his toss was described as one of the longest and fastest balls ever thrown by a President in an Opening Day ceremony.
In the game, the Washington Senators were defeated the Chicago White Sox, 4-3
