JFK spent the day in the Oval Office, where at around noon he was presented a copy of the collected papers of President James Madison.
In the evening, JFK and the First Lady host the President of the Ivory Coast and Madame Houphouet-Boigny at a white tie state dinner. Secretary of State Dean Rusk and his wife are also attendees. The photograph below is taken in front of the White House grandstair case, a traditional backdrop for the official photograph of the state dinner.
