In the morning, JFK played golf with his sister Jean. Later in the day, Jack was involved in a game of croquet with Jackie, Jean, and Caroline at house in Hyannis Port. The game was interrupted by the Kennedy family dog Charlie, who kept chasing the ball, causing JFK to yell at the rascally canine.
That evening, JFK and Jackie host Jean Kennedy Smith and her children and Rose Kennedy at dinner. Afterwards, JFK talks on the phone and becomes irritated when he finds out that New Jersey Governor Robert B. Meyner will not commit to supporting him for President.
Seeking reassurance, a call is placed to Joe, Sr. who said that the nomination was “in the bag.”
