President-elect John F. Kennedy was photographed standing in the doorway of his Georgetown home with Alaska senators E.L. Bartlett (center in the photo below) and Ernest Gruening.

Kennedy had paid some previous political attention to the state when he campaigned for Gruening in 1958 and then returned in September, 1960 during his run for the presidency.
