JFK was photographed at the Santa Monica home of Peter and Patricia Lawford by Los Angeles Times photographer William S. Murphy for a story on the senator appearing in the next day’s editions.
This informal portrait was chosen by Jackie Kennedy to be the likeness used on the 1964 postage stamp used to honor JFK.
