Matter

JFK published in the New York Times under his byline an article entitled What’s The Matter with New England.

Most likely written by his Senate staff, the article continued the concern and attention he had been devoting to the subject throughout 1953 in a series of speeches in the Senate.

Kennedy declared:

I believe we must speak frankly about the problems that confront us and I believe that the federal government has to play a role in the alleviation of those problems in its position as catalyst and conservator of the resources of the entire nation.
