JFK was in Worchester, Massachusetts where he gave the commencement address and received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Assumption College.
Kennedy spoke for about twenty minutes and opened the talk by admitting that it had been nine months since he had been back in the state that he represented in the Senate.
He went on to give a rather turgid, somewhat obsequious summary of Assumption College’s place in higher education and its function in providing a link to the French intellectual movement. The speech did not include any direct advice or congratulations to the graduates.
