JFK is a guest on the television political talk show Meet the Press. Kennedy was asked if he agreed with President Eisenhower’s statement that he was critical of the strident attacks being launched by Senators Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin and William Jenner of Indiana against various politicians and members of the establishment. Kennedy, who was very friendly with McCarthy, criticized his friend and supported Eisenhower’s position.
