October 9, 1941
JFK is in Hyannis Port waiting to hear about a possible posting by the Navy. He wrote a letter to his friend Cam Newberry reporting on his current social activities,
Went down to Dixon’s wedding, he married a very pretty girl who looks just like him. Dixon looked well, but as I had been preparing for weeks for this occasion, I’m afraid as far as looking like a million dollars – I stole the show. Dixon said rather bitterly that I looked like a Hollywood actor, and little Moe – he didn’t mean Mickey Rooney.
From there I went back to N.Y. + drove by the S.S. Prarie State to see if I could find yard-bill (Bill) Coleman who has finally been caught – at Virginia Beach I believe the arrest was made. I didn’t see him, but yelled Coleberg around there enough to make his name known.
From there I went up to Greenwich + saw your friend Pete Wick + bride – who is well along, but looking very nicely. Proceeded then to Boston to see Torb + Jonas, + heard MacDonald is going to be married December 19 to Polly Cotter – I was surprised too. I then drove back down here and as I couldn’t get my top up I froze my balls off – and have been in bed ever since.
