Money
JFK was in Chelsea Naval Hospital and wrote a letter directing that money from the royalties of the condensed Readers Digest version of his PT 109 exploits should be sent to a naval relief fund to facilitate distribution to the widow of one of the sailors (Kirksey) lost in the sinking.
Also included in the letter is Kennedy’s edit suggestions that are misleading in suggesting that Kennedy was in the process of turning to attack the destroyer when it was struck.
