JFK is on the tarmac of Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts to meet his sister Kathleen who arrived on an Army transport plane after hearing the news of the death of her brother Joe.

Upon arrival, Kathleen ran across the tarmac and fell weeping into her brother Jack’s arms and then walked arm-and-arm with him through the airport.

In order to meet his sister, Kennedy had finagled a day pass from the Chelsea Navy Hospital where he had been admitted for back, leg, and abdominal complaints.
