JFK meets Dave Powers for the first time. Powers at the time was living with his widowed sister and eight nieces and nephews in a tenement in Charleston.
Jack Kennedy shows up at his house and knocks on the door leading to the front of the house (which Kennedy apparently did not realize would be shut down due to lack of central heating in most Charleston homes.)
JFK asks if he could speak with Powers for a few minutes and mentions that he is running for Congress and begins to quiz Powers about what he would do if he were running for Congress from the Eleventh District.
Powers tells Jack that he is supporting candidate and boyhood chum John Cotter. On the way out the door, JFK asks Powers if he will do him a favor and accompany him to a meeting with Gold Star mothers the following Tuesday. Powers agrees.
