JFK’s favorite sister Kathleen Kennedy Hartington wrote to him, inviting him to vacation with her at Lismore, a legendary twelfth-century estate in County Waterford in southern Ireland once owned by Sir Walter Raleigh and now in the hands of the family of William Cavendish Hartington, her deceased husband. Jack Kennedy was officially in Europe to conduct a fact-finding mission on the effects of the Marshall Plan, but as always, he was open to having fun.
