David Levy was skipper of the PT 48 and served alongside Jack Kennedy in the Solomons.
Levy was the comrade who get JFK into trouble when his boat ran aground on a coral reef one night on patrol. Kennedy threw a tow line from the 109 and pulled the 48 off it’s snap point. Somewhere during this untangling Levy’s boat bull was pierced and started taking on water. JFK turned around and came back from his cruise home to help out again. After the bilge pump borrowed from some nearby destroyers did not work and motoring slowly backwards failed, the boat was left stranded on an island and the PT 48 crew hopped onto Jack’s boat for the trip back to base.
