John Iles, Jr. skippered PT 105 and shared a bunk with JFK in Tulagi.
Born and raised in Louisiana, Johnny boxed and played football in high school before graduating from college in Memphis. He survived the war and returned home to Louisiana to work in the metals industry.

Iles was chosen by the Navy to skipper a PT boat in the John Wayne movie They Were Expendable about the exploits of the Motorboat Torpedo Squadrons in the South Pacific.
