Mardi Gras

Jack was in New Orleans to meet up with Frances Ann Cannon for Mardi Gras. Frances had stopped in to visit Jack in Palm Beach ten days earlier and Jack had decided to follow her to continue his courtship.

He also met up with a Princeton pal Robert Walmsley who was from New Orleans and drove Frances Ann out to the airport to meet Jack. Hi pal had to scrounge up a set of tails for Jack, who had brought only his casual traveling clothes.. Frances Ann later intimated to friends that Jack asked her to marry him on this visit.
