Bad Weather
JFK was out on patrol in bad weather hanging off the coast of Choiseul Island hunting Japanese barges. As on most of the patrols the formation did not encounter any. At 3 am a Japanese float plane dropped a parachute flare and then two bombs that missed the 59 by 150 yards. The 59 did not return fire as they could not locate the plane in the dark.
